Socket Occasional Lamp represents part of a study exploring the boundaries between minimalist sculpture and practical everyday objects by Danish design duo Norm Architects. A weighty, heavy lamp cast from brass, Socket Occasional Lamp is designed to fit perfectly on the desk, shelf or a nook in the home that needs to be lit. The inserted socket is easily removed, so that – with or without a bulb – the lamp also functions as a paperweight. The lamp is inspired by Norm Architects’ recent work with geometric jewellery. “In our work, we aim for geometrical purity,” the designers explain. “We want to arrive at the maximum expressivity with the minimum of expression. It’s not about designing less of product. It’s about soft, streamlined shapes that invite you to touch them.”
